Welcome to the Metabolic Disease and Obesity Clinic (MDOC)

It’s time to break free from the overwhelming struggles associated with weight loss and embrace the support you deserve. The Metabolic Disease and Obesity Clinic (MDOC) medically supports you in your weight loss journey. We take an individualized approach to address the diet, behavioral and genetic factors that contribute to your obesity and identify specific factors limiting your weight loss in the past.

The Obesity Epidemic

Obesity is defined as having a BMI >30 with a BMI >25 being overweight, and it’s fast becoming one of the nation’s biggest healthcare challenges. Since the 1970s, obesity in the U.S. rose from 5% to greater than 40%, with 75% of people being overweight.

Being overweight or obese:

  • Increases your chance of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease
  • Increases your use and cost of prescription medications
  • Increases your risk of living in a nursing home due to poor mobility
  • Decreases your life expectancy

The Program

MDOC is designed to address the four cornerstones of successful weight loss and maintenance.

Our program combines:

  • Dietary counseling – The goal is to help create healthy, sustainable eating habits that promote weight loss while making sure your body receives the building blocks it needs for optimal function.
  • Exercise – The goal is to help you improve strength and function while promoting weight loss. We meet you wherever you are to create achievable and realistic steps toward improved mobility and total wellness. Physical therapy is always an option as a starting point.
  • Stress management – This may involve some simple relaxation techniques, counseling referral and/or medication management. Better coping strategies help our patients develop a healthy relationship with food and prevent relapses.
  • Medication management/Genetic testing – There are many options for medical or surgical management. Our goal is to identify the treatment plan to meet your personal needs and health goals.

Other Resources to Increase Success

Our team makes referrals as necessary to help you achieve the maximum benefit from your efforts, including:
